February round-up

Here’s what’s been happening around town 👇

🛍️ Midwinter High Street Market – A Fantastic Success
Our Midwinter Market on 31 January brought strong footfall and a great atmosphere to Wickford High Street. Thank you to all the traders, visitors and volunteers who made it such a success.

✨ We are proud to introduce the new vision for The Square at Market Lane, in the heart of Wickford — a refreshed identity and renewed purpose for this outdoor space.

Our vision is for The Square to become a vibrant and welcoming place filled with music, community spirit and memorable moments — where people gather, local businesses thrive, young people are empowered and events bring us together.
This is more than a space — it’s a shared vision, available to book through the Town Council office.

🏗️ Planning & Infrastructure Update
The Committee continues to carefully review planning applications to protect Wickford’s character, raising objections where proposals conflict with Green Belt policy, overdevelopment concerns or highway safety issues.

🗺️ Neighbourhood Plan work continues to progress to the next stage, with consultation documents being prepared.

🌳Environment & Leisure Highlights
• 10,000 daffodil bulbs planted across Wickford for a colourful spring display
• 12 cherry trees planted at Wick Green
• 150 woodland whips planted around the town
• Market Road allotment lease progressing with updated arrangements agreed
• Proposed locations agreed for new “Welcome to Wickford” boundary signs
• Support confirmed for the Great British Spring Clean
