Neighbourhood Plan
A Neighbourhood Planning is a way for communities to have a say in the future of the places where they live and work. Power is given to produce a plan with real legal weight that directs development in the local area. The Neighbourhood Plan sits below the Principal Authority Local Development Plan.

A public survey is shortly being launched for residents to share their views to help shape the development of a Neighbourhood Plan for Wickford.
Background
The Town Council initiated the process to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for Wickford and on 13 November 2023, Basildon Borough Council approved the application to designate Wickford as a Neighbourhood Area.
The Town Council engaged a Planning Consultant to prepare a Scoping Report. This sets out the draft vision, aims and objectives, policy ideas for a Neighbourhood Plan for Wickford. Wickford Scoping Report_final issue
Key development issues for the Plan to address have been identified as:
- The town centre
- Business, economy and employment
- Housing
- Transport, parking and movement
- Green and blue infrastructure
- Design, character and heritage
- Community facilities and services
Steering Group
The Town Council has established a Steering Group and is looking for residents and local businesses to join and help assist with developing the plan.
The Group is currently made up of a small band of residents and local Councillors but is looking for more people to volunteer their time to help shape the individual key development policies. You don’t need to be an expert, just someone who is interested in how our town could be shaped in the future.
